Triple insulated wire is a type of winding wire built around a single copper conductor with three layers of extruded insulation. Made from modified ETFE, the insulation guards the wound wire against short-circuiting, breakdown between windings, and physical damage during coil assembly. This reinforced construction achieves voltage ratings, dielectric strength, and creepage/clearance spacing that standard magnet wire cannot meet on its own. 18 AWG sits toward the heavier end of our TIW range, making it a strong fit for power transformer and switching transformer windings that call for higher current capacity alongside reinforced insulation. Its slightly lighter profile than 16 AWG still handles robust current loads while allowing more flexibility in bobbin selection. Rated for Class F service (155°C/311°F), this wire holds multiple UL/IEC/VDE compliances and insulation system approvals, suiting it to switching transformers, medical equipment, and other components with strict performance and regulatory demands.
