PTFE Wire - 600 Volt
Commonly known as PTFE wire or Teflon wire, MIL-Spec M16878/4 Type E hook-up wire consists of a silver-plated copper conductor insulated with a PTFE (Teflon) jacket. PTFE hook up wire is rated for up to 600V and 200°C (398°F) and is known for its resistance to heat, chemical durability, and flexibility. The overall diameters of the Teflon-coated wire in this category range from 0.080"-0.032" (16–30 AWG).
What is PTFE Wire?
PTFE wire is a type of hook-up that is insulated with polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE). PTFE wire is often used in electrical applications thanks to its resistance to high temperatures and dielectric strength. It’s also commonly referred to as “Teflon wire”, as Teflon is a very popular brand name for PTFE. PTFE insulated wire is the first choice for many critical military and civil applications. Our Teflon wire meets MIL-Spec M16878/4 Type E hook-up requirements, and the UL standard name for it is UL1213.
PTFE Wire Applications
PTFE wire is utilized in a wide range of applications and industries, especially those that require a trusted, high-quality solution that can withstand abrasion, heat, chemicals, and more. Here are just a few applications that UL1213 PTFE cable is regularly used in:
- Aerospace and military applications, for electrical wiring near engines or in adverse environments.
- Medical device applications, thanks to its biocompatibility.
- Industrial machinery, due to its ability to withstand chemicals, fuels, lubricants, and abrasion.
- Industrial ovens and cooking appliances. Teflon cable has excellent flame resistance and the ability to function well in high temperatures.
Our PTFE hook up wire can be purchased in bulk or in single spools in the colors of your choice, to best suit the demands of your application.
Benefits of PTFE Wire vs. Standard Hook-Up Wire
PTFE wire offers significant differences when compared to standard hook up wire. Here are some ways in which it differs to our most popular PVC-coated hook up wire, UL1007.
- The PTFE wire in this category is a better choice for any application that requires a higher temperature rating of 200°C (392°F). UL1007 offers a very sufficient temperature rating for applications that require a lower temperature rating of 105°C (221°F).
- Teflon wire also stands out as it is rated for up to 600 volts. UL1007 has a voltage rating of 300 volts, which is suitable for a wide range of appliances and other electronic equipment.
- PTFE coated wire also has the benefit of increased chemical inertness, the ability to withstand harsh environmental conditions, flame resistance, and more.
Use our Resources table to compare UL1213 PTFE wire with other similar hook up wire types, including UL1007, UL1015, and MIL-W-16878/1.
