A general-purpose steel alloy that can be easily welded or formed, this stainless steel 304 meets ASTM A276 specifications and contains 8 percent nickel and 18 percent chromium. This allows for greater oxidation resistance when used in temperatures of up to 1,600°F. This stainless steel round rod is therefore also highly resistant to corrosion and heat, and will respond very well to hardening by cold working.
